Hola amigos, si estáis pensando en un viaje diferente, aquí tenéis una sugerencia caribeña.
CARIBBEAN ISLAND
**This island is situated just in front of Venezuela, in the Caribbean Sea, between Martinique and St. Lucía islands.
**Barbados is the best destination for a holiday because of its golden beaches, relaxed resorts and lovely people. Barbados is part of the West Indian archipelago. Its eastern coast faces the Atlantic and its southern and western coasts offer wonderful beaches, transparent water and a temperature of 28º centigrade.
Every year thousands of tourists arrive at the island's international airport, near the capital Bridgetown.
ISLAND CULTURE
**Amerindians were the first people to inhabit the island. They travelled from Venezuela in canoes around 1600 B.C. (antes de Cristo)
**The first Europeans to reach the island were the Portuguese in 1536 AD (después de Cristo).
**English settlers (colonos) arrived in 1627 and later brought (llevaron) 70,000 African slaves to work on sugarcane plantations so the island became the world's top sugar producer.
**In 1930 all Barbadians won the right to vote in free elections and the island won freedom from Britain in 1966. The British influence, however, remains evident in the many Georgian and Victorian houses on the island.
**The official language is English but Barbadians also speak Creole which is a dialect that uses English words and African structures.
**There's a rocky coastline called Scotland.
**There are resorts with names like Brighton, Worthing and Hastings.
In Barbados you will find beautiful beaches, marvellous coastal landscapes, a blue Caribbean sea, a special rum, a typical Creole food and an extreme lovely people!!!
GO AND TELL ME, PLEASE!
**If you like adventure, you can take a submarine tour and see the incredible coral fauna.
**There are bus services to most places and you can rent a car or a motorcycle.
**Another attraction is BAJAN RUM (ron) so a visit to a distillery such as Mount Gay is recommended. It is not far from the capital.
**In Barbados there are many colourful rum shops, to go and enjoy a pleasant evening among friends.
