ENGLISH GRAMMAR AND EXERCISES / GRAMÁTICA Y EJERCICIOS DE INGLÉS

Hi my dear friends, as the Course at schools, high schools and  universities  is starting right now, today we're going to revise two tenses : the Present simple and the Present continuous, when we have to use them and the difference between them.  We will do some exercises too. Here we go!

Hola mis queridos amigos, como el curso en los colegios, institutos y universidades está empezando justo ahora, hoy vamos a repasar dos tiempos verbales:  El Presente simple y el Presente continuo, cuándo tenemos que utilizarlos y la diferencia entre ellos.  También haremos algunos ejercicios. ¡Allá vamos!

My doll

TENSES   /   TIEMPOS VERBALES

PRESENT SIMPLE  (I do: Yo hago) and PRESENT CONTINUOUS  (I'm doing: yo estoy haciendo)

**WE USE THE PRESENT SIMPLE TO DESCRIBE THINGS THAT ARE ALWAYS TRUE AND THINGS THAT WE USUALLY DO.

Examples:   It takes me five minutes to get to school : tardo cinco minutos en llegar al colegio   /   Liza plays the piano three days a week : Liza toca el piano tres veces a la semana    /   I go to school every day : voy al colegio todos los días.

**WHEN WE USE THE PRESENT SIMPLE, WE DON'T HAVE TO FORGET THE "S" WHEN THE SUBJECT IS "HE, SHE, IT".   She speaks  English and French.  Mary talks to Peter.  The dogs likes bones.

**TO FORM A NEGATIVE SENTENCE we will do:    Subject  +  don't  +  verb >
I don't like Mondays.
Or  subject +  doesn't  +  verb (third person singular)  >   Peter doesn't come to see me.

**TO ASK QUESTIONS:   Do + subject + verb     /    Does + subject + verb (third person singular)
Do you like films?
Does he study Maths?

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

**WE USE THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS TO EXPRESS AN ACTION THAT IS HAPPENING AT THE SAME VERY MOMENT OF SPEAKING.

**AFFIRMATIVE:     subject  + am, is, are +  verb finishing by -ing.

**NEGATIVE:   subject  +  am not, isn't, aren't   +  verb finishing by -ing.

**QUESTIONS:    am, is, are   +   subject  +  verb finishing by -ing.

Examples:  I am watching TV at the moment : estoy viendo la tele en este momento  /   Lucy is speaking to Paul right now : Lucy está hablando con Paul justo ahora /  Are you having lunch Mary?: ¿Estás comiendo con Mary?
