TRAVEL / ABERDEEN (Scotland)

A new advice about travelling to UK.
Un nuevo consejo para viajar al Reino Unido.

ABERDEEN /  PRIDE OF SCOTLAND

Every year the Scottish city of Aberdeen commemorates the Scottish martyr William Wallace with parades of Scottish pipes bands and medieval musicians.
William Wallace is tHe inspiration behind the movie "Braveheart".

Aberdeen is the third largest city and is located on the north-east coast.  It's known as the Granite City, or Silver City because its Victorian buildings were constructed with granite.

Firstly, the city was famous as a fishing port but nowadays it has become The Oil Capital of Europe because of the discovery of oil in the North Sea.

Aberdeen has many beautiful parks and gardens.

You can do the Grampian castle trail (la ruta de los castillos)  which connects the castles of Crathes, Drum and Balmoral which is the Scottish residence of Queen Elizabeth.  A good way to see the castles is by hot air balloon with a Virgin Champagne Balloon Flight.

If you're planning to go,  here you are some information:

*Aberdeen is about 150 km north-east of Edinburgh (capital of Scotland and a magnificent city too).
*The city covers three hills, and is located at the mouth (desembocadura) of two rivers the Dee and the Don.
*The city's name comes form Gaelic "Aber" meaning convergence and "da-aevi" meaning two rivers.
*Aberdeen airport offers flights to most destinations in Europe.
*There are regular trains from Edinburgh and London every day.
