PEUR SUR LA VILLE  d'Adam  Roy.  /  MIEDO EN LA CIUDAD DE Adam Roy.
Éditions Hachette /  adapté en Français Facile.  Editorial  HACHETTE (www.hachettefle.fr)

"LA CHOSE DORT DEPUIS SI LONGTEMPS QU'ELLE A OUBLIÉ LE TEMPS".
CACHÉE SOUS TERRE,  ELLE ATTEND L'HEURE.
ELLE DORT, ELLE SE RÉVEILLERA UN JOUR.
QUAND LA FIN DES ÊTRES HUMAINS SERA PROCHE...

Chapitre 1  -   LA CHOSE   -

Hi my dear friends, today we are going to read a fiction story!  It's a short tale but really interesting! It's about a teenager and her stepmother!!  On my own experience , I don't want to add  any more! and I'm sure that many of you won't think of it as a fiction story!
I hope you'll like it!!

THE BIRTHDAY PRESENT   by  Rita  Mavis  Snelson.

Happy birthday, dear!  Lucy held the small package.  She was incredulous, a birthday present!  She couldn't remember ever having a present to open.

Lucy held the small package in her hand, wondering what a wonderful surprise awaited.  She shook it close to her ear, only a soft, thud , and turned it over and over.  The wrapping paper had the name of the shop:  H. SAMUEL.  She knew that it was a jeweller's.  She loved window shopping at H. Samuel', dreaming of being a star, wearing precious emerald stones around her neck and silver bangles around her tiny wrists.  H. Samuel was her stepmother's idea of Tiffany's!

Lucy couldn't believe how important she was to have a birthday present bought from  H. Samuel.  The best jeweller's in town.
She smiled at her stepmother.  Lucy had misjudged her;  here she was holding a little box, a dream!  She felt tears of joy well up in her eyes:  why had she held such bitter thoughts towards her steptmother?

Lucy's thirteen birthday was going to be special after all!  Only two events were celebrated with a gift: Christmas and her birthday  and she only ever received useful presents, either a pair of shoes or a dress, depending on how much she had grown.  She might have shoes for Christmas if she had outgrown her old ones, or sometimes a skirt and pullover, or viceversa, for her birthday.  She outgrew her clothes long before they were worn because she was only allowed to wear her "good" clothes if they went visiting on a Sunday. During the week she made do with clothes and shoes her stepmother bought at the local church jumble sale.

It wasn't that they were poor or anything;  her stepmother just didn't consider it necessary to spend money on new cothes and shoes for a growing child.  Why should she spend money on a child that wasn't even hers!  Her new outgrown clothes were given as presents to her stepmother's relatives'  daughters.  They couldn't be wasted, could they?

Her stepmother believed in giving Lucy a good housekeeping education.  She was strict and expeted Lucy to be obedient.  She had to be the first one up in the morning to prepare breakfast for the paying guests before setting off for school.  Her stepmother's motto  was "The Devil finds work for idle hands". If Lucy wasn't up by 7 o'clock, her stepmother would knock on her bedroom wall, disrupting her morning dream.  Lucy envied her friends who talked about their Sunday morning in bed sleeping till late.

On Sundays the knock on the wall was sounded at 6.30, reminding Lucy that she had to get up to attend the 7 o'clock Mass.  Lucy reluctantly got out of bed, she had to cycle three miles to the Catholic church, and winter time was the worst, the cold frosty mornings biting into her face and hands.
Her steptmother wanted her  to be a good obedient Christian,  and good Christians always went to early morning Mass.  Lucy had no say, she was obedient and, being an only child, she had nobody to seek comfort from.
She hated getting up early in the morning, she hated the ugly dresses and shoes her stepmother bought for her birthdays.  Perhaps, deep down, she hated her stepmother too.
However, a good Christian should not hate and Lucy tried to kid herself that she loved this woman.  Today, Lucy's birthday, her stepmother's redemption;  she hugged her and whispered, "Thank you, Mum."

Now here, at last, a small package -not the usual dress or shoes-  a tiny package with H. SAMUEL  printed on the wrapping paper.  Could it be a pair of earrings?  She had pointed to a pair when her stepmother was buying herself a gold bracelet, or maybe that beautiful brooch with the initial "L".
Lucy closed her eyes;  or a set of our bangles to make up her name.  She could feel the excitement of opening her first real birthday present!!!  Thirteen, a teenager!!  She felt so special!!

Slowly, she started unwrapping her gift.  Her stepmother stood  by her side with a smile, so sure that Lucy would just love her present.  So much thought had gone into choosing the right gift fo a teenager!

The wrapping paper revealed a square brown leather box and, inside the small box, a pink floral patterned case, just like Chinese boxes.  Lucy carefully took out the box and held it in her had.  It had a catch on one side and two small hinges on the other.  She cliked the catch and opened the  box.

A small ladies alarm clock ticked quietly away.  The alarm had already been set for  7 o'clock,

BIKRAM YOGA : AN ALLY OF OUR HEALTH ! UN ALIADO DE LA SALUD

Hola otra vez mis queridos amigos, siempre es bueno  practicar algún deporte o hacer ejercicio físico aunque haga calor, frío, humedad.

Hi my dear friends, it's always good to  practice a sport or do  a physical activiy even it's hot, cold or humidity.  In my case I'm very fond of sport and so and now I would like to speak about  YOGA and more specifically BIKRAM YOGA because we can practise it in a hot weather or any other weather condition. Tell me your opinion after, please.

Info: www.mujerhoy.com

**BIKRAM YOGA
Bikram yoga has become a "must" nowadays but what is the secret of its success?
We could say that it is for everybody and with spectacular results!

Despite the fact that  Bikram Yoga is practised at about 40 centigrade Degrees and a lot of humidity (42%), there are more and more followers everyday.

"The Asanas" or "positions" that are practised in Traditional Yoga are the same than in Bikram Yoga or Hatha Yoga.  The difference is that Bikram Yoga is practised in a  hot atmosphere and so  you tone up all your body and the "Asanas" are designed for this purpose.  Your body eliminates toxines obtaining at the same time, healing results!

**MORE ADVANTAGES?
Only in three weeks you can see the results!

**HEALTH'S  ALLY

The "Asanas" practised in Yoga, balance our body functions, tone up our nerves and muscles and  carry blood to different parts of our body.

Our organs receive a massage too.

Our emotions keep calm.

Bikram Yoga treats anxiety and  makes us relax at once!

In Madrid, we can practise Bikram Yoga  at   "Californian Hot Yoga" and simply Yoga at a lot of gyms and sport centres!

Cheer up!!!  ¡Animáos!

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR PRACTISING YOGA?
¿A qué esperáis para practicar Yoga?

ALASKA, A MARVELLOUS LAND! ALASKA, ¡Una tierra maravillosa!

Hi my dear friends, I'm here again and to speak about Alaska today.  And you will be wondering WHY ALASKA? It's very simple, I've got a lot of followers there so, they worth it! And the most important thing is that Alaska is, as the title says, a MARVELLOUS LAND!

ALASKA
It's the 49th and the  largest state in the USA.  Separated from the rest of the country by Canada, Alaska lies on the Arctic Circle.
Alaska is also home of the highest point in North America and all of the top ten highest mountains in the USA.

THE REGIONS OF ALASKA

**Southwestern Alaska >  Alaskan Peninsula and Aleutian Islands.

**Southeastern Alaska > Panhandle and Inland Passage.

**Southcentral Alaska > Anchorage and Kenai Peninsula.

**The name "Alaska" had been introduced in the Russian colonial period, when it was used to refer to the peninsula.  It was derived from an Aleut idiom, which refers to the mainland of Alaska.

**Although Alaska had been occupied for thousands of years by indigenous people, from the 18th century, European powers considered the territory of Alaska ripe for exploitations.  The United States purchased Alaska from Russia on March 30, 1867 for $7.2 million and after several administrative changes, it was admitted as the 49th state of the USA on January, 3, 1959.

**According to a 1998 report, approximately 65% of Alaska is owned and managed by the U.S. federal government as public lands, including a multitude of national forests, national parks, and national wildlife refuges.

ALASKA INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Alaska was occupied by numerous indigenous peoples for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans to the area.

The Tingit people developed a society in  the  today southeast Alaska .  The Haida are well known for their arts.  The Tsimshian came to Alaska from British Columbia.  The Aleutian Islands are home to the Aleut people's society.  Western and Southwestern Alaska are home to the Yup'ik while the Alutii lived in which is now Southcentral Alaska.
The Gwich'in people are known today for their dependence on the caribou and live in the northern Interior and the North Slope and Little Diomede Island are occupied by the Inuit people.

ENERGY RESOURCES

**Alaska has got vast energy resources.  Oil and gas reserves are found in the Alaska North Slope.

AGRICULTURE

**The Tanana Valley is a notable agricultural area with a big concentration of farms growing crops.  Alaskan agriculture has experienced a surge of growth of market gardeners.

STATE SYMBOLS

** The Forget-me-not is the state's official flower and bears the same blue and gold as the state flag.

**Alaska is known with the nicknames : "The last frontier" or "the Land of the Midnight Sun".

**The state fish is the King salmon, and the state bird is the Willow Ptarmigan, an Arctic grouse that lives among willows.

CITIES

** JUNEAU:  this is the state capital and third largest city.
**ANCHORAGE:  Alaska's largest city
**DEADHORSE:  Alaska's oil centre.
**DUTCH HARBOR - UNALASKA: largest community in the Aleutian Islands.
**FAIRBANKS: Alaska's second largest city.
**HOMER: Halibut fishing capital of the world.
**KETCHICKAN: Alaska's suthernmost city and the first Alaska port for northbound cruise-ship travelers.
**KODIAK: The Island Town.

OTHER DESTINATIONS

**DENALI NATIONAL PARK.
**CAPE KRUNSTERN NATIONAL MONUMENT.

THINGS TO DO IN ALASKA

There are many things to do when you travel to Alaska.  If you are an adventurous type, Alaska will be a great place to you.  You can go hiking, kayaking, fishing, and expeditions to see the wildlife of Alaska like wolves, whales and bears.  There are month-long expeditions to the top of Mt. McKinley.

A journey on the Dalton Highway provides a unique experience because it crosses mountains, the Arctic Circle and 414 miles of pristine wilderness.

Stay up late to see the midnight sun, it's fascinating to watch in the summer!!!!

Try fishing in Alaska too!  If you are in the right spot, you'll catch fish very quickly!  Alaskan salmons can be caught but with a daily limit !  If you want to get a fantastic experience, pay a local to bring you on their boat and fish for the day.

A cruise might be a great experience too!

EAT

Alaskans love their food and the portions that they serve are really huge!!

Try the reindeer sausage with eggs and hash (picadillo) in the morning and you'll feel like a true Alaskan!!!

Seafood,  is delicious!  Many local restaurants serve fresh halibut  and salmon right off the boats!

However, prices are expensive! It's very difficult to transport goods and food to Alaska but if you want to eat cheaper always order seafood, fish or meat, not pasta or other type of food difficult to find in Alaska. The local products and food are cheaper than the ones they have to be  transported until there. Don't forget it!

DRINK

Beer is perfect in Alaska with 7 breweries in Anchorage !
Alaskan Brewing Company in Juneau is the best known brewery in the state !
Other towns with local Breweries include Homer, Haines, Kodiak, Fox and Wasilla.

NATURE

When you visit a natural area, do not pick flowers or collect natural features, especially in a national park or a forest.  These are protected areas and if everyone took something away, it would spoil it for everyone else!

Respect the land and don't litter!

Bears live in many areas of the state and are best avoided.  Moose (alces) are common and just as dangerous and attack humans more frequently than bears.

Alaska is a wonderful land!!!  That's sure!

IF FINALLY YOU VISIT ALASKA, ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE !!!

SEE YOU and thank you for being there !!!

EASY ENGLISH / FREE HUGS. ABRAZOS GRATIS.

Hi my dear friends.  We have just started a new year and for this reason I wish you all the best and only the best! I would like us to be positive so this post is about "HUGS". Let's begin hugging people!!!  Why not? And, hugs are free!!!

HUGGERS DAY  in London.

**It is demonstrated that a hug puts a smile on your face and turns your day into a marvellous experience!
So, all you need is a hug!

**RANDOM HUGGERS DAY was started  in London by Mayella Reynolds because one day, when she was listening to the radio, a DJ commented that if you could find random criminals on the streets, why not to find random huggers?
At once, Mayella loved the idea and she decided to make it reality.

**The first RANDOM HUGGERS DAY was in May 2004 when Mayella and her friends met at London's Covent Garden and started hugging people.

**First reactions were typically English!  People walked quickly away with their eyes down!  But at a moment, some people stopped and accepted hugs!!!  And so, by the end of that first day 3,000 people had enjoyed a hug!

**RANDOM HUGGERS DAY is now an annual event and Mayella hopes to inspire Random Huggers Days all over the world!

HUGGERS DAY   in Australia.

**Great ideas often appear in more than one place.  On the other side of the world, in Australia, a man returned to his hometown and discovered that his family and friends no longer lived there.  He knew no one.  So, at a moment, he made a sign that read: FREE HUGS.  He stood in the street for some time before somebody accepted his offer but finally he felt so good that he went on to organise the FREE HUG CAMPAIGN.

MACY'S NEW YORK . SHOP IN STYLE. / MACY'S Nueva York. Tienda con estilo.

Hi again my dear friends.  Today, we will know much more about an American Icon, a typical American store, "MACY'S" in New York City.  We will see its history from the beginning until nowadays! If I were you, I wouldn't miss this post!

Hola otra vez queridos amigos.
**SHOP IN STYLE

Macy's is being renovated nowadays.  It's the famous New York department store and the project will cost about $ 400 million and should be completed in 2015.

However, tourists and shoppers mustn't be worried!  Macy's will stay open because the work is being done on a rotational basis, one floor at a time.  When the project is complete, Macy's will have an entire floor's shoe department, with over 300,000 pairs in an area that will cover 39,000 square feet! (3,600 square metres)

The renovation project's plans also include new bars and restaurants, which will help Macy's become a meeting point, and not just a place to go shopping.

New Yorkers have shopped at Macy's in Herald Square for 110 years.  The Macy's story is even older than that!  The original Macy's,  a retail dry goods store for local workers,  was opened in Haverhill, Massachusetts by ROWLAND HUSSEY MACY  in 1851.  It wasn't a success and for this reason Macy tried his luck in New York.  He opened "R.H. Macy Dry Goods"  on Sixth Avenue between 13th and 14th streets.  On the Company's first day of business, October 28th, 1858, it took only  $11.08.

Before that, Rowland Hussey Macy worked on board a Nantucket whaling ship, The Emily Morgan and, like most sailors, he had a tatoo.  His was the shape of a star and that is why there is a star in the Macy's logo.

Even if the shop took a few dollars on its first day of business, Macy's did well and a few years later it moved to 18th Street on Broadway, en elite shopping district known as "Ladies Mile".

Macy's stayed there for another 40 years, before moving uptown to Herald Square (at 34th street) in 1902. In those days this was a long way north of the New York retail area and the store had to operate a special steam wagonette to take customers there.

**A SYMBOL

Macy's department store in Herald Square is a New York institution:  its Thanksgiving Day parade and 4th of July fireworks are major events.

TRaditionally, Macy's was the world's largest department store,  although it lost that title in 2009 when the SHINSEGAE COMPANY opened new premises (locales)  in South Korea.  But New Yorkers still love Macy's!

If you are from New York, as a child, surely your parents remember Macy's as a place to go. It is the place to shop. The building is like a museum, being America's largest department store, with its wooden escalators (escaleras mecánicas de madera) still today.  Macy's has Santa, the one and only Santa!  and people always remember its holiday windows and its iconic flowe show!  Macy's is a family store!

**NEW CUSTOMERS

The economy has been shaky since the crash of 2008 and this has much affected Macy's too.

But at the same time, Macy's is now very promotional, it is known for its "one-day sales", the international and domestic saving pass (bonos descuento)  for travelers and much more!

The UK and some of the European markets spend less right now than in the past but the business is growing from the Brazilians and the Chinese.

Anyway, Macy's has become one of the most famous department store in the world!  It's a chain of shops with more than 800 locations (locales) in USA though Herald Square is considered the flagship store (la tienda insignia)

It's a tourist attraction like the Empire State Building or Times Square.

It's a fact that tourism has helped Macy's to survive the economical crisis!

The company research shows that the average customer spends $100 during a travel!

You can find at Macy's everything!  From jeans and underwear until towels or bedspred!  You can find low prices but brands (marcas)  too!

Macy's has become a New York symbol like Harrods in London!

If you are planning a travel to New York, visit Macy's, it will be a very pleasant experience!

HAVE A NICE DAY!!!!
