TRAVEL/ GREECE/ KASTELORIZO ISLAND / Viaje/Grecia/ La isla de Kastelorizo

Hi everybody, as I told you last day, we are still in summer so I would like to recommend you a beautiful and lovely destination.  THE KASTELORIZO ISLAND in Greece.

Hola a todo el mundo, como dije el último día, todavía estamos en verano así que me gustaría recomendaros un destino bonito y encantador:  LA ISLA GRIEGA DE KASTELORIZO.

**KASTELORIZO ISLAND  (Greece)
-This tiny Greek island is a paradise!  Pure sea, pure sun, pure nature, pure architecture, simply marvellous!

-Kastelorizo has become a shelter (refugio) for painters, sculptors, musicians and architects.  Art is everywhere!

-To arrive in Kastelorizo is not easy!  You have to fly to Athens, then you have to take another plane and fly to Rodas and then you'll take a Ferry to the island.
-The first thing you will see while arriving is the Port of Megisti which is protected from the wind by the Turkish mountains.
-Colour is everywhere too.  Houses are painted blue, white, green.
-You won't see any car here, and there is only one taxi.
-It's a fishermen place mainly and if you need a mean (medio) of transport, they will take you on their boats around the zone.

-If you need to have a rest, go to Kastelorizo, it's a real  peaceful place.

-As this island is very close to Turkey, you can see the Thurkish influence on decoration , in the streets, even on food!

-SHOPPING can be done in the village of KAS (Turkey) which is only one kilometre away from Kastelorizo.  You can take a "caique" which  goes to this village and do the shopping, mainly on Friday,

-A place to visit is a very small  chapel situated in San Jorge little island.

-Opposite San Jorge, there is PLAKES, a natural area.

-You don't have to miss "THE BLUE CAVE" in Greek "FOKIALI".  This cave becomes blue AT NOON because of the sun light.

-An ancient fortress, a carved tomb from  the 5th century B.C., the Acropolis Paleo Castro must be visited too.

-People in Kastelorizo are lovely and kind to tourists and travellers.

**WHERE TO STAY / Dónde quedarse.
-HOTEL MEDITERRANEO
http://www.mediterraneo-kastelorizo.com/

Its owner ,  a French architect woman "Marie Rivalante"  arrived in Kastelorizo 10 years ago and restored the building where the hotel is but  she has preserved its Italian style though there is a mix of Greek and Turkish styles too.  Simply marvellous!

**WHERE TO EAT / dónde comer.
-The LAZARAKIS Restaurant:  good ambiance and better cuisine.
-TA PLATANIA Restaurant offers spectacular sights and home cooking.
-OLIVE GARDEN is an Italian Restaurant in which you'll find excellent Pizzas and Pasta.

**TO HAVE A DRINK / tomar una copa.
-PAGARADIS.
-ALEXANDRA'S.
-KIRIAKI.
These three bars are close to the beach.

**TO GO SHOPPING / para ir de compras.
-At the MEDITERRANEO HOTEL boutique, you will find a lot of typical  Greek and Turkish shoes and dresses.
-CATHERINE & JOEL is an antique shop. It is opened from May to September.
-AT KAS BAZAR, you will be seduced by the colours of clothes, sandals, bags, etc.

***As I have said before, it is a bit difficult and long to arrive in Kastelorizo but the charm, the peace, the colours, the food and the island itself , will conquer you.

***I will be very happy if some of you decide to go and visit this special Greek island and then tell me his/her experience.
